Join a team that works on real spaces
Illumin8d is based in Rosebank, Johannesburg and works on architectural and decorative lighting projects across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Umhlanga. Our work includes shopfronts, restaurants and private homes, so every day is different and every brief needs a practical eye. We are a small, hands-on team that values clear communication, good manners on site and the ability to solve problems when conditions change.
We hire people who understand that lighting is not only about appearance. It must suit the building, the budget, the available power and the way people use the space. In South Africa that also means planning for load-shedding, municipal rules, coastal humidity and the realities of working in occupied spaces.
Roles we hire for
We do not keep a long public vacancy list, but we regularly look for people in design, technical and site support roles. If your background fits one of these areas, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page.
- Lighting designers and concept design support
- Technical design and controls specialists
- Project coordinators who keep schedules and drawings in order
- Site installation managers and focusing teams
- Client-facing people who can manage updates and site communication
Experience with shopfronts, hospitality spaces or residential work is useful. So is the ability to read plans, work with suppliers and explain technical details in plain language.
What we look for in applicants
We are interested in people who take pride in accurate work and steady follow-through. A good fit usually means you are calm under pressure, comfortable on site and willing to learn how lighting, controls and installation details affect the final result.
- Strong attention to detail
- Good understanding of measurements, layouts and fixture positioning
- Respect for timelines, site access and client property
- Ability to work with contractors, architects and store teams
- Willingness to travel when a project needs it
If you have worked in interiors, electrical coordination or visual merchandising, mention it. Practical experience often matters more than fancy wording.
Where your work may take you
Our projects can involve a Rosebank showroom, a restaurant in Sandton, a home in Cape Town or a shopfront in Umhlanga. That means some roles include local travel, site meetings and after-hours work when a space must stay open during the day. You may also need to assist with mockups, samples, installation coordination and post-install focusing.
We often deal with live environments, so neat site conduct matters. Protective coverings, careful handling of finishes and clear sign-off are part of the job. In coastal areas like Durban and Umhlanga, moisture resistant choices and maintenance access are often part of the brief too.
How to apply
To apply, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page and tell us which type of role suits your experience. If you have a portfolio, project list or sample drawings, include that as well. Keep it clear and practical, with your current location and the kind of lighting work you have done.
We review applications for current needs and future opportunities. If your experience matches one of our project streams, our team will be in touch with next steps.
Working standards on our projects
We expect a professional approach on every site, whether it is a small home upgrade or a full restaurant fit-out. Good lighting work depends on coordination, timing and accuracy, so our team keeps a close eye on the details from specification through to installation.
- Clear handover notes and accurate drawings
- Careful fixture placement and focused aiming
- Respect for client schedules and trading hours
- Awareness of safety, access and electrical requirements
If you enjoy work that combines design thinking with practical site delivery, this may suit you well. We value people who can think for themselves and still work as part of a team.
